The Vinyl Fence, Deck and Railing Manufacturers Association (VFDRMA), a Division of the American Fence Association, represents the interests and serves the needs of all vinyl fence, deck and railing manufacturers, suppliers, fabricators and installers, as well as support entities.

As part of its mission, VFDRMA has developed Deck & Railing University to promote safe, code-compliant deck building.

  • All safe deck and railing installation based on codes and best practices starts with sub-structure construction and ledger board and railing attachment.
  • The curriculum will address the proper installation of various deck and railing materials, including wood, composite and vinyl.

Expert Instructors

VFDRMA is utilizing the best experts on deck and railing standards, codes and best practices to develop and conduct Deck & RailingUniversity: Dr. Robert Tichy, Ph.D., research engineer, wood materials and engineering laboratory, Washington State University, whose primary research areas are wood-based composites, building construction materials and systems, and David S. Gromala, P.E., former director of codes and product acceptance for Weyerhaeuser, the international forest products company.

Quality Assurance

  • School quality is being assured through the work of Dynamic Performance Solutions, a training consulting firm which is creating a formal deck and railing installation training curriculum for the school.

Registration before December 30 for members of AFA is $795 and for non-members is $895. After December 30, the late registration fee for any registrant is $895. VFDRMA member companies will receive a rebate of $100 per employee attending. Any company registering additional employees will receive a rebate of $100 per additional employee attending. Rebates will be issued after the school is conducted.

The cost of registration includes:

  • 1 full day of intensive training
  • Classroom instruction
  • Hands-on installation lab
  • Expert instructors
  • Take-home materials for future use

Register early, as only a limited number of students will be accepted and early registrants pay less. Students are admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.
