Nominate a Deserving Individual

Tell us who is an AFA Superstar. The American Fence Association (AFA) Association Awards recognize members who are committed to the industry and contribute to the work of the AFA. Eligibility criteria is outlined below for each award.

The deadline for nominations is 11:00 PM central time on Friday, December 6, 2019.

Know Before You Nominate

You’ll be asked to submit both personal and professional details about your nominee’s contributions of service to the fence industry in order to nominate them. Our online nomination form asks for information such as:

  • Number of years in the industry
  • AFA Board and Committee Service (role, years, etc.)
  • Affiliate Boards, Committees, Task Forces or Other Service to the Industry
  • Participation at the Chapter level
  • Participation in the local community

The AFA Awards Committee, comprised of industry professionals, AFA volunteers, and prior award winners, will review eligible nominations and select the award winners. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony during FENCETECH 2020 in Salt Lake City.

Individuals can be nominated for more than one award as long as the nominee meets the eligibility criteria. Complete a separate nomination form for each award. Incomplete and ineligible nominations will not be accepted.

Ambassador Award

Granted to the individual who devotes extraordinary energy to perpetuating and advancing the AFA’s name, reputation and ideals.

Eligibility
  • Nominee and those sponsoring the nominee (nominating individual or company) must be a member in good standing for the past 5 consecutive years at the time of the nomination.
  • Nominee must have a minimum of 5 years of service in the fence industry. The time frame of service shall be inclusive of all years in the industry and not limited to years of service at any one company.
  • Nominee must have shown a specific service to the association and industry and follow AFA’s statement of Business and Ethical Practices. Service will be interpreted as, but not limited to, AFA committee work, AFA chapter participation as an officer or committee chair, or serving on a the AFA Association board.
  • Posthumous awards may be accepted if the criteria for eligibility are met.

Distinguished Service Award

This award honors an individual who is a living examples of the highest ethics and standards of excellence.

Eligibility
  • Nominee and those sponsoring the nominee (nominating individual or company) must be affiliated with an AFA member company in good standing at the time of the nomination.
  • Nominee must have a minimum of twenty (20) years of service in the fence industry with the last ten (10) years serving in an upper management or ownership position. The time frame of service shall be inclusive of all years in the industry and not limited to years of service at any one company.
  • Nominee must have displayed business integrity, be highly respected in the industry, and adhered to the American Fence Association’s Statement of Business and Ethical Practices.
  • All nominations shall include a typed statement from the sponsor (nominating individual or company) describing in detail the nominee’s accomplishments in the industry and Association and why the nominee deserves the award.
  • Posthumous awards may be accepted if the criteria for eligibility are met.

Hall of Fame Award

This is the highest honor bestowed on an individual by the AFA. The recipient displays outstanding achievement, dedication and exceptional contributions to the fence industry.

Eligibility
  • Nominee and those sponsoring the nominee (nominating individual or company) must be a member in good standing for the past 5 consecutive years at the time of the nomination.
  • Hall of Fame nominees must have a minimum of 25 years of service in the fence industry and have made a substantial contribution in one of the following:
    • Outstanding support of the AFA through volunteer service on boards or committees.
    • Distinguished contributions through leadership or support within fence industry.
  • Nominee shall have a high standard of unquestionable ethics and moral character.

Fence Contractor of the Year Award

The Fence Contractor of the Year Award recognizes a company’s outstanding service to AFA that advances the name, reputation and ideals of the Association on both local and national levels, as well as the company’s integrity and character.

Eligibility
  • Nominated company must be an AFA contractor member in good standing at the time of nomination.
  • Nominee must adhere to the American Fence Association’s statement of Business and Ethical Practices.
  • Nominee must actively participate in his or her local chapter meetings and activities.
  • Nominee must be involved in the Association, through participation in various activities such as attendance at FENCETECH within the past twenty-four (24) months.
  • All nominations shall include a typed statement (no more than one page) from the sponsor, describing in detail the nominee’s participation in the local chapter, any local community involvement, Association involvement through attendance at FENCETECH, AFA University, etc. and why the nominee deserves the award. Any nomination not containing a signed statement will not be eligible.
  • Nominee’s Chapter and community involvement criteria will be verified with his or her local AFA Chapter.
  • Incomplete nomination forms will not be eligible.

Manufacturer of the Year Award

The Manufacturer of the Year Award recognizes a company’s outstanding service to the industry and AFA that advances the name, reputation and ideals of the Association on both local and national levels, as well as the company’s integrity and character.

Eligibility
  • Nominee must be an AFA manufacturer member in good standing at the time of nomination.
  • Nominee must adhere to the American Fence Association’s statement of Business and Ethical Practices.
  • Nominee must actively participate in his or her local chapter meetings and activities.
  • Nominee must be involved in the National AFA, through participation in national activities such as attendance at FENCETECH within the past twenty-four (24) months.
  • All nominations shall include a typed statement (no more than one page) from the sponsor, describing in detail the nominee’s participation in the local chapter, any local community involvement, Association involvement through attendance at FENCETECH, AFA University, etc. and why the nominee deserves the award.
  • Nominee’s Chapter and community involvement criteria will be verified with his or her local AFA Chapter.
  • Incomplete nomination forms will not be eligible.

Outstanding Service Award

The Outstanding Service Award recognizes an individual’s service to the industry as an AFA volunteer speaker/trainer or committee volunteer.

Eligibility
  • Nominee(s) and those nominating must be affiliated with an AFA member company in good standing at the time of nomination.
  • Nominee(s) must have a minimum of ten (10) years of service in the fence industry. The time frame of service shall be inclusive of all years in the industry and not limited to years of service at any one company.
  • Nominee(s) must have displayed one or more of the following volunteer speaker/trainer roles:
    1. Participated in a leadership role as Chair or instructor at one or more of AFA’s training schools for a minimum of five (5) calendar years.
    2. Provided training of AFA members at Chapter meetings for a minimum of five (5) calendar years.
    3. Served as a speaker at FENCETECH or an AFA Regional meeting for a minimum of five (5) calendar years.
    4. Served as a Chair or member of an AFA committee/taskforce for a minimum of five (5) calendar years.
    5. Any combination of the above criteria shall constitute the required minimum five (5) calendar year requirement.
    6. Be highly respected in the industry and adhered to the American Fence Association’s Statement of Business and Ethical Practices.
  • All nominations shall include a statement (no more than one page) from the nominator describing in detail the nominee’s accomplishments in the industry and Association and why the nominee deserves the award. Any nomination not containing a signed statement will not be eligible.
  • Posthumous nominations may be accepted if the criteria for eligibility are met.
  • Nominators are permitted to submit multiple nominations.
