Certified Automated Gate
The Certified Automated Gate Systems Designer (CAGSD), administered by the Institute of Door Education and Accreditation (IDEA), offers eligible candidates the ability to distinguish themselves from competitors and promote this certification to the public.
Created by a coalition of industry leaders from the American Fence Association, the International Door Association, the Door and Access Systems Manufacturers Association, the National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association, and administered by the Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation (IDEA), the Automated Gate Systems Designer Certification program aims to recognize those in the industry who have an exceptional level of expertise.
Eligibility & Cost
The CAGSD is open to automated gate system designers who have a minimum of two years’ experience in the discipline. There is a $200 fee which includes a study guide for the examination, testing, and three years of certification.
Preparing For The CAGSD Exam
The CAGSD exam is a self-study course. Once a candidate registers to take the exam, a study guide will be provided to him or her.
To aid in preparing for the exam, a candidate can elect to register for the Automated Gate System Design School, a two-day instructor led course offered by AFA. Learn more about the Automated Gate System Design School.
Registering For The CAGSD Exam
Candidates can register through an approved AFA Event (AFA University or FENCETECH) or attend an exam session scheduled through IDEA. All potential candidates must complete the CAGSD application and submit it to IDEA in order to be eligible to sit for an exam.
The Automated Gate Systems Designer Certification is valid for three years based on the effective date assigned by IDEA. Each credentialed gate systems designer must earn 9 hours of continuing education (CE) credits during the three-year period. IDEA provides a CEU submission form on their website if a certificate or other documentation is not provided.
