Fence Contractor Business School

The newest school offered at AFA University is the Fence Contractor Business School, which debuted to the industry one year ago. Attendees are taught, in an intensive one-week classroom format, the business of the fence contracting industry.

The school consists of six individual courses covering the most critically important aspects of managing a fence contracting business:

  • Marketing, Advertising and Sales
  • Estimating and Bidding
  • Insurance and Legal Issues
  • Accounting and Corporate Structure
  • OSHA Compliance and Safety Management
  • UL 325 and ASTM F2200

Students are offered a certification option at the conclusion of the course, which consists of a series of six written examinations based on the individual courses taught during the week. The Certified Fence Contractor program is administered by the Accreditation and Certification Institute (ACI), which is the credentialing organization of the fence and gate industry.

Who Should Attend?

Many of the attendees at the inaugural Fence Contractor Business School were veteran owners of fence contractor firms. These students gave the school high marks as they learned many of the skills, they had not been previously taught, or had to figure out by trial and error over the years. These individuals also benefitted from the school as a means of preparing for the Certified Fence Contractor examinations.

The school is targeted toward the next generation of fence contractor professionals, or those who are currently in the fence business and plan to take on an ownership or top management role in the near- or long-term future. These students will learn the business side of the operation and gain valuable education on topics that will benefit them for a lifetime.

Important Information about Certification

Individuals who seek the Certified Fence Contractor designation must have a minimum of two years’ experience in the fence contracting business. Those who have fewer than 10 years’ experience must attend the Fence Contractor Business School in order to earn the CFC designation.

Individuals with more than 10 years’ experience have the option of attending the school or self-studying for the written examinations.

Anyone attending the school with less than two years’ experience may apply for the Certified Fence Contractor designation but would not be awarded the certification until they reached the required experience level, even if all six written examinations were successfully passed during the testing event at the conclusion of the school.

General Information:

Study materials for the course will be mailed to students in advance of the course. Advance study is highly recommended to enhance the value of the school.
