American Fence Association Priorities for FY2007-2008

Mission

The American Fence Association benefits the fence, deck and railing industry and the consumer by promoting the highest levels of professionalism, ethics and product standards, through the dissemination of information and the education of its members.

Budget for and operate to provide sufficient net income and effectively serve members

 

By Strategic Plan Priorities

BENEFITS: Deliver benefits that increase the profitability, save time, and offer value to our members

  1. Provide and promote tangible resources to members
  2. Expand Business Partner offerings and reposition as member discounts
  3. Provide an up-to-date Resource Guide in print, on CD and on the web site

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Develop and implement education and training programs for owners, managers, sales people and installers at all levels of the fence, deck and railing industry

  1. Create a modular curriculum for Field Training School as
    a basis for the Certified Installer certification and to enable school segments to be offered regionally
  2. Offer a Gate Operator School with a modular curriculum in Tulsa in October and offer a pilot Gate Operator Installer Certification examination at the school
  3. Support the Divisions to develop a 2007-2008 Deck and Railing Training School with a modular curriculum co-located with Field Training School
  4. Expand and promote the Education Library
  5. Offer Sales Training School multiple times in varied locations and modularly through chapters
  6. Offer and promote the CFP examination through all chapters, market CFP to buyers, show members how to use it to grow, promote and track re-certification, explore on-line training options, and keep the exam and study materials up-to-date based on revisions in ASTM and other standards

MEMBERSHIP: Create more value in membership by growing and supporting chapters and divisions of AFA to effectively address specialized and localized issues

  1. Grow AFA membership through a new member recruitment program involving chapters
  2. Issue new member and renewal kits and send follow-up items to members
  3. Establish new chapters
  4. Work with chapters to organize effective chapter meetings and events
  5. Develop chapters as a primary method for members to access AFA products and services, and receive AFA continuing education, training and information
  6. Deliver effective leadership programs for current and future association leaders

TRADE SHOW: Create the major annual marketplace for the fence, deck, railing and related industries to learn and make buying decisions

  1. Conduct a successful FENCETECH’08 (make net income target)
  2. Plan and deliver a successful educational program addressing key industry segments

MARKET INFORMATION: Be the primary source of
market information in the fence, deck, railing and related industries.

  1. Continue to develop Fencepost and DeckWorld magazines; highlight one or more chapters in each Fencepost issue
  2. Continue to deliver Across the Fence on a regular monthly schedule
  3. Undertake a public relations and advertising program aimed at architects, specifiers, engineers and general contractors to develop a preference for using AFA contractors
  4. Publish a product guide for architects, specifiers, engineers, general contractors, builders, etc.
  5. Update, keep current and add value to the AFA web site

CONSUMER AWARENESS: Increase consumer awareness of and preference to use AFA members

  1. Continue the radio advertising program
  2. Continue effective consumer advertising and public relations activities
  3. Develop and issue pool safety, gate operator and other public service announcements

STANDARDS AND REGULATIONS: Develop and support standards that professionalize the industry and work for improved governmental regulations affecting the industry

  • Work to become an ANSI accredited standards development organization and support the efforts of Divisions and other AFA constituencies to develop favorable product standards
  • Promote favorable product standards through member involvement with standards organizations
  • Investigate a plan for obtaining favorable changes in Davis Bacon Act and workers compensation classifications for the fencing industry
  • Research the availability of federal funds to promote pool safety, gate operator and homeland security issues
